(Reed 2016) 40" LATE 6" Dormant Diploid, 3 branches 26 buds, UF cascade
Warm dark rose pink with a light green to white throat that blends out onto the petals and sepals; lighter ruffles. Dependable late-blooming, star-shaped cascade with great branching and bud count. Blooms heavily in August, “after” midseason. Out of AFTER AWHILE CROCODILE, but much better color. Pod and pollen fertile. $75
EYE AM (Murphy 2016) 32” EE 6.5” SEV Dip, 3 branches 16 buds, UF Cascade
Shocking eye is what I think of most on this intro. The base color is peach to tan but then has a large reddish purple eye covering most of the bloom. It also has a ruffled cream edge, veined tepals, dark green throat, and chartreuse midribs. It comes from patterned breeding and has the best strongly eyed and patterned kids of any of our seedlings. Fertile both ways. Seedling by Seedling with Faulkner and Carpenter genetics. Foliage damage here in the spring, but recovers well. I suggest only zones 6-9.
FOGGY BOTTOM (Reed, 2016) 56” M 6” dormant, diploid, 3 branches 24 buds, UF cascade
Foggy Bottom is one of the oldest neighborhoods in DC, a mysterious low area near the Potomac River, where the State Department resides (who knows what goes on there). The daylily is a secretive purple, with a light green to white throat radiating out onto the petals and tepals until it merges into the grape color midway. The blooms are on tall, nicely branched scapes, and recurve to display the blending of fog and darkness. It is from a cross of PURPLE ARCHITECTURE x JUST JESSIE. Pod and pollen fertile.
HULA (Murphy 2016) 48” ML 6” Dormant Dip, 3 branches 30 buds, UF Cascade
This light red blend with pink watermark dances near the top of very strong scapes. It has cream midribs, cream edge, and a green throat, and is a very recurved cascade. Sunfast here, and has a long bloom period, into late August. Out of NEGATIVE IMAGE by a seedling and MARGO REED INDEED. Very fertile, and most kids have patterning.
HARD DORMANT BLUE GREEN FOLIAGE that is freeze resistant.
OUT TO GET YOU (Murphy 2016) 44” ML 5.5” Dormant Dip, 3 branches 30 buds, UF Cascade
Very dark black red cascade with a “ Sunburst” yellow throat and green heart. Good branching and a long bloom season when most are done for the year make this one stand out. In our garden, this is sunfast to 98F. Out of two nearly-sunfast parents: GRIM REAPER x FOCUS. Fertile, good parent for sunfast, dark, dormants. Very limited. Rebloomed in 2017-one of my most used parents, sets pods easily.
Not registered as a rebloomer, but is now reliably reblooming for us, usually more than once.
PLAYPAL (Murphy 2016) 45” ML 7” Dormant Dip, 3 branches 31 buds, UF Cascade
A standout in the garden for 4 years because of the very appealing, unusual color that is hard to photograph or describe. Red to violet tepals, with some purple thrown in, and a muted darker eye. Lighter ruffled edge, dark yellow throat, and prominent veining. Very rapid growth, sunfast to the low 90’s here. Can be seen across the garden because of the unusual color. Out of EVIL GNOME by NEGATIVE IMAGE. Fertile both ways and is a parent of patterned kids. Dark Blue Green Foliage in the spring, and late freeze resistant.
SO IT BEGINS ( Murphy 2016) 30” EMRE 6” SEV Tet, 2 branches and 20 buds, UF Spatulate
Most patterned seedlings have good days, bad days, and lose their pattern to hot weather or long days in the garden. This TET intro is a long awaited, reliably patterned, all-day/any-weather plant with great color. Very fertile both ways, and has decent rebloom here. Lemon Cream with multiple patterned eyezone, green throat and a small picotee edge halfway onto the petals. Quite spatulate form, very sunfast, and lightens to cream on very hot days. Fertile with fantastic patterned kids. Sometimes goes dormant, but registered as a Semi Evergreen. Out of FISH FACE by BARCODE.
Very good rebloom in 2020 -2022.
SOUTH POLE (Reed, 2016) 42” La 6” dormant, diploid, 3 branches 18 buds, UF cascade
Polar opposite to North Pole (with its large, stiff crispate form and white/green colors), South Pole is a graceful, ruffled cascade in soft creamy snow white. Light green throat shifts to cream yellow late in the day. Out of my SNOWBOARDING X NED’S CHOICE (Lovett). Pod and pollen fertile. $100
