Outrageously wacky, but really gorgeous! Named in memory of a friend’s dog, this one makes the standard for "exotic" and unusual! Tall branched scapes hold the very large blooms. The color is butter yellow with a large rose-blush band and a lime green throat. The form is ruffled, with the sepals tightly curled in corkscrews or spirals, and the long petals "hanging out" here and there, usually in a graceful cascade. Variable forms add to its charm.
Pollen fertile, pod difficult. Only one available for 2016
Parentage: (Crystalline Entity x Nathan Sommers) x (Scarletts Web x North Wind Dancer)
First of all, this one is tall and has tremendous branching. Yellow curled or twisted blooms with a light reddish band. Light fragrance, sunfast and rainfast. It is an improvement on ELI MURPHY in terms of color and bloom presentation. Normally has 5 way branching. Normally has 30 buds. Sometimes goes to 6' tall, with 50 buds. Out of ELI MURPHY by MONSTER MAGIC. Fertile, very long blooming, sometimes a spider. It increases well! Double fans
(Reed, 2014) 45" M 6.5" dormant, diploid uf crispate
This unusual form (crispate) is hot & dark burnt red orange with a gold throat radiating out into the red band on the petals. Tall, with branching (3) and good bud count, this is a vigorous daylily that puts on a show, and glows in the evening sunset garden. It has been a garden favorite for a while, and just like the real flying squirrels that get into our attic, it cannot be denied.
(Reed, 2014) 40" M 5" dormant, diploid uf crispate
The delicate, airy appearance of this daylily is deceptive; this daylily stands strong (and light) on a well-branched scape that holds it high. Although it measures at 5", the bloom appears smaller as the ruffled petals recurve; the sepals stick out like wings. The color is a clean blue-purple, with a lighter watermark (band) and a white throat with a deep green touch in the middle. Combining my genetics with one of Pat Cochenour’s, I dedicate this one to her.
Pod and pollen fertile. Parentage: Snow Crab x (Grey Witch x Jack Carpenter sdlg #2)
Grown from a brilliant cross made by David Metzger of Hanover, VA, this is a deep black-purple that is sunfast and has heavy substance. With 2-3 way branching and 14-16 buds, it is impressive with its huge blooms. There is a faint darker band that shows up in some weather, and a deep green throat. It has a velvety surface texture.
Pod and pollen fertile, this has been a fabulous parent for rich rose to purple colors for us.
(Murphy 2014) 32" ML 6.5" Dormant Diploid Cascade UF
Light lemon cream cascade with light green throat, cream midrib, very heavy bloomer. Completely sunfast, and rain resistant. 4 or more branches and 32 buds, but can have as many as 60 buds. This plant is covered in bloom for about 3 weeks. Out of ((Mountain Top Experience x Rocket Science) x Skinwalker)) x Margo Reed Indeed. Fertile, but difficult for pods. Very consistent in the late July to early August garden here.
Excellent grower and garden plant. Rebloomed heavily in 2020.
( Murphy 2014) 38" ML 7" Dormant Diploid Cascade UF
